Mediatek has announced two new chipsets – the Dimensity 920 and 810, which are built on TSMC’s 6nm manufacturing process. Both platforms bring octa-core CPUs and Full HD+ displays with 120Hz screen refresh rate suggesting they are intended for mid-range phones.
Mediatek has just announced the arrival of their latest processors in a bid to continue dominating as an international chipmaker after recent market falls due to Qualcomm’s dominance worldwide., In particular, these chips expand upon existing technologies from Mediteak: The dimensity 900 chipset was previously introduced back at MWC 2018 while its successor is expectedly similar but brings improvements over time such as faster connectivity thanks to Cat 19 support (downlink) along side.
The Dimensity 920 has Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.5GHz alongside the new Cortex-A55 ones clocked at 2GHz. The GPU is a Mali-G68 MC4, and Mediatek claims it will offer up to 9% better gaming performance than the previous model, all while using less power. The Dimensity 920 supports LPDDR4x RAM as well as UFS2 storage for increased flexibility when building smartphones with this SoC (System On Chip).
The Dimensity 920 supports Dual 5G SIM connectivity as well as VoNR service. Other specs include all the latest Wi-Fi standards, 2×2 MIMO and Bluetooth 5.2.
The Dimensity 810 chip is the first 6nm Dimensity 800 series chip and again offers dual 5G stand-by, but it has an older Cortex-A76 CPU core clocked at 2.4GHz with no speed for its secondary cores confirmed yet. It also comes with a Mali G57 GPU and support for up to LPDDR 4X RAM & UFS storage devices like previous models in this line of chipsets have done so far too! Both versions are expected to arrive on smartphones sometime during Q3 2021 as well reportedly.
